Climbing COL DES SAISIES from the North side

A way to leave Haute-Savoie

to go towards Grenoble

In the opposite way of "Gorges de l'Arondine", this ride leaves Flumet to join Albertville passing by le Col des Saisies. In 2000's, Tour de France descended this climb... Here is a map to show you the ride...

As shown on this pannel, we leave Flumet by road D218 towards "Notre Dame de Bellecombe"...

Once you passed this little bridge, some short bends will permit you to take altitude very quickly. Here is a point of view from Flumet, below from this place...

At the next crossroad with the D218B, take on your right. Otherwise you will return towards Megeve... The nice road continues to climb in the forest. I remember the first time I rode it during Lyon Mont Blanc Lyon 1996...

Later, we arrive in Notre Dame de Bellecombe. The climb is not yet finished... We are going to get warm..

After Notre Dame de Bellecombe, we go through little villages as "Montrond", "Plan Dernier" and "Covetan". Then the road becomes tiny and the climb continues in high mountain pasture. Remember of this place. If you see a good climb, finally the climb is not very difficult... The following will be perhaps more difficult but it is nothing for you, you have a triple, don't you?

The climb is not too bad! As you ride slowly, have a look on your right. You will be able to see last pieces of snow. For your information, theses pics have been taken on May 19th 2001 at 02:00pm...

We arrive at the Col. Perhaps you will recognize this place if you know it in wintertime...

I hope you enjoyed this climb of 14 kilometers (10 miles). The climb was not too hard. If you want to have a look on the other side, I recommend to read the ride between chapels in Beaufortain...
